Shark Week! at the Greece Public Library

Can you just hear the music from Jaws looking at this picture?  Does thinking about sharks make your heart race?  Join us for some great SHARK WEEK fun at the Greece Public Library!  We are having programs for all ages to celebrate the Discovery Channel's Shark Week and get you pumped for the real thing.   On Wednesday, August 6 at 6:30 p.m., come and design a shark mouth t-shirt and design a necklace with real shark teeth.  Bring your own t-shirt.  You can also pose with our Monster Shark for a great photo op!  Bring your cell phones for this great selfie opportunity, or we can take one with our camera for you.  The movie Sharknado will be shown for inspiration!

On Thursday, August 7 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. we will be making some shark inspired cuisine with the Tops Cooking School.  Registration is open for both of these programs, so be sure to sign up HERE.   Our weekly puzzle will also have a shark theme, and will be a "Jumble" type of puzzle.  Turn one in by Friday, August 8 by 5:00 p.m. to be included in the drawing for a Wegmans gift card and a free book!

While you are waiting, come on in and check out one of these great shark books!

When Davey wakes, just as the sun is rising, he can't wait to slip out of the crammed hotel room he's sharing with his family. Leave it to his parents and kid brother to waste an entire day of vacation sleeping in! Davey heads straight for the beach, book and glasses in hand, not bothering to leave a note. As the sparkling ocean entices him, he decides to test the water, never mind that "No Swimming" sign. But as the waves pull him farther from shore, Davey finds himself surrounded by water -- and something else, too. Something circling below the surface, watching, waiting. It's just a matter of time.

Famous shark hunters and other adventurers speak for the first time about their dangerous encounters with these fearsome predators in this book chronicling shark attacks both on Australia's fatal shores and around the world. It records miraculous escapes as well—some so bizarre they defy belief, and some that display extraordinary courage in the face of extreme peril. The phenomenon of so-called "rogue" sharks that stalk and kill humans in numbers, in the same place, at the same time, is also investigated. With all viewpoints covered from shark hunters to conservationists, these gripping stories will both fascinate and frighten, taking the reader into the realm of creatures that have ruled the oceans with ruthless efficiency for more than 400 million years.
